Ian Levine's The Daleks' Master Plan
Something remarkable happened on Ian Levine's Facebook today (21st October 2012); he's posted some images from the animated Daleks' Master Plan he intends to pursue as his next project.
Under one of the images, the following message:
"Okay this is an important and serious request. Once we finish the current private Doctor Who projects (Yellow Fever, Gallifrey etc) we are going to properly animate the entire Dalek Master Plan. But I need to find a few serious people who can chip in and help, or it's not going to happen. The standard will be as good as anything you have ever seen. Please please no public replies, only by private message. It's in a very worthwhile cause, despite the let-downs over our wonderful "Shada". And please remember that one day, eventually, there will be someone different and more receptive at the BBC."
I think it's worth adding at this point that Ian Levine can be found here!: https://www.facebook.com/ian.levine.35
Having been one of the lucky few to have seen both Shada and Mission to the Unknown, I can only shiver with the excitement at a fully-animated version of the entire Daleks' Master Plan (albeit with those three extant episodes as live action instead). I've also seen Adam Bullocks' very cheap'n'cheerful Feast of Steven (it's on YouTube), which is just a home-spun and decidedly low-rent alternative to listening to the episode without pictures, but even that was better than the blank-screened alternative (indeed, it was a lot of fun).
The thought of a fully-animated DMP, though...
Let's hope Ian gets the investors he needs to get this project together, and that once he does, BBC Worldwide are receptive enough to the idea to give some serious consideration to getting it put out on DVD.
I'm not wading into the arguments about Dan Hall and Shada again, except to say that whatever the reasons for the decision (and we must trust that they were good ones), it's too late for anything to be done about it now.
But what joy an animated Daleks' Master Plan would bring! And even if it wasn't animated to be of a consistent approach to The Reign of Terror (and whatever else ThetaMation are currently working on...), it would surely be better to have it in a different style than not at all. It would also make an ideal home for that single episode Mission to the Unknown animation - and the fact that that's in (what would presumably be) a different style again might actually be a virtue, given that technically it's an entirely different story... albeit as a prologue to this one.
I'm just praying to the Lotto Gods now that I get a nice big windfall in the next few weeks...

Ian Levine, 30th October 2012: "We can honestly genuinely make the Daleks Master Plan work, fully animating the remaining nine episodes. We finished animating Shada, Mission To The Unknown, and reconstructing Lost In The Dark Dimension and loads more. We proved we can do this. We can do it to a better standard than The Invasion or Reign Of Terror. But we need genuine sincere investors to pull off such a major coup. If you can help, PLEASE get in touch."
